Quality control is what separates a paint factory that builds repeat dealer relationships from one that loses customers to inconsistent batches. You don't need a large lab to get this right — here are the tests that actually matter, and the instruments to run them.

Basic QC Lab Setup Cost

A small factory can build a functional QC station for ₹1.5–4 lakh covering all six tests above — a fraction of what a single rejected commercial batch costs in wasted raw material and dealer trust. See our full lab equipment guide.

Why Skipping QC Costs More Than It Saves

💡 A single 200-litre rejected emulsion batch, including raw material, labour and lost dealer confidence, typically costs more than 3-4 months of running a basic QC lab. IPCS treats QC instruments as a day-one investment, not an optional upgrade.

Additional Tests for Growing Factories

  • Wash resistance (scrub test) — critical for premium emulsion positioning
  • Adhesion test — cross-hatch method, especially important for enamel on metal
  • Weathering resistance — for exterior paint claims
  • Colour consistency (spectrophotometer) — important once you run multiple shades/tints

Building a Simple QC Checklist

1

Set target specifications

Define acceptable range for viscosity, pH, opacity for each product before production starts.

2

Test every batch, not spot checks

Every commercial batch should be tested against spec before it's approved for filling.

3

Maintain batch records

Log test results against batch numbers — essential for traceability if a customer complaint arises.

4

Retain reference samples

Keep a sealed sample from every batch for at least 6 months for comparison if issues arise later.

ISO 9001:2015 — Worth Pursuing?

Not legally mandatory, but ISO 9001:2015 certification meaningfully improves credibility with government tenders, institutional buyers and larger dealer networks. IPCS is itself ISO 9001:2015 certified and guides clients through the documentation and process requirements to achieve certification for their own factory.
